A FEW THINGS 1

I finally have some GOOD NEWS for you guys! Baseball is coming back! Per the governor’s new order released late last week, teams can resume practicing at this time. I strongly encourage you to take things slowly at first when you start back practicing. Arms aren’t in mid season shape yet; kids (and coaches) aren’t as used to the heat as they would normally be this time of year. Be sure to give your team plenty of water breaks to keep them hydrated and don’t overdo it out of the gate.

Our state leadership team met this morning to work on our plan for summer with the season starting the week of June 15. We are doing everything we can to offer a full slate of tournaments with the big shows that you guys love included. At the same time, we are trying to do everything we can to be safe and follow the recommended guidelines set out by the state in regards to youth sports.

A few things to take note of…

-We will be scheduling games further apart to try to help give teams time to exit the park before the next team comes in.

-High fives, handshakes, fist bumps, etc. will be discouraged before, during, and after games.

-Trophy/ring presentations will be suspended for the remainder of the current season. Awards will be given directly to the head coach for him to distribute later.

-Plan on all tourneys beginning on Friday evenings. This will be a huge help in keeping the parks less crowded throughout the tourneys, as well as helpful in dealing with the extreme heat that normally hits our state in the peak summer months.

The BPA Alabama State Tournament (The Diamond Cup) will be moved to the weekend of July 3-5. We are still finalizing locations for each age group, so there may be some minor adjustments to locations for that weekend in the next few days.

The BPA World Series scheduled for the Chattanooga area June 25-28 may be moved to a later date. More info will be coming on that later this week.

The BPA World Series scheduled for Trussville will be played July 15-19.

The Dinger Club event will be held on August 29.

Other important info

-All teams are REQUIRED to turn in a NEW roster signed by parents and coaches before their first game each weekend.

-All teams are REQUIRED to turn in proof of team insurance IF they don’t have Westpoint – BPA insurance.

-The current season will be extended through September 30, 2020, for all teams. Continue play in current age group (if desired). Current sanction and insurance will be good until then.
